If The Words
Feel Hard To Find

Story & Centre Speaking who they were
What would you want someone to understand about your relationship?

Complicated love rarely fits the story other people might recognise. There may be a version of this relationship only you carry, one that holds both the difficulty and the things that mattered. You do not have to soften what was hard, or invent a warmth that was not there, to say something true. Dignity does not require sanitising, and naming what was real, even the parts that contradict each other, is enough.

Readings Bringing in another voice
Is there another voice other than your own, that can say something true about a love that was hard to hold?

You do not need, or may find it hard to find a poem written for grief like this. Sometimes a line written about a different kind of difficulty, a fractured sibling relationship, an imperfect parent, a love that changed over time, can carry what you cannot yet say directly. Borrowing a voice is not avoidance; it can be its own form of honesty.

Blessing Words offered outward
If you could offer this relationship one true thing, without needing it to be simple, what would it be?

A blessing here does not require forgiveness, resolution, or even warmth. It only asks for sincerity. You might bless what was good, release what was not, or simply acknowledge that something real existed between you, however unresolved it remained.

Intention What you will carry forward
What do you want to carry forward from this, and what are you ready to leave at this threshold?

Complicated grief often asks you to hold two things at once: what you keep, and what you no longer need to carry. An intention does not have to choose between them. It can simply name both, and let the ceremony hold that.

Closing Words to return on
What is the last thing you need to say, to close this, even if it does not feel finished?

Some relationships do not close cleanly, and this ceremony will not force that. Your closing words only need to mark that you were here, and that you stood at this threshold and honoured this special kind of grief.
